Prior to creating this office, our client Dr. Kwak set up shop in medical offices and surgical suites that he shared with other doctors. Naturally, it was a big life event when he decided to purchase his own space and remodel it to represent his brand. We were hired to give our opinion about office spaces Dr. Kwak was considering purchasing and to design the space he ultimately chose for his facial plastic surgery practice. The overall plan was carefully developed so the doctor could fit multiple exam and procedure rooms, as well as a surgical suite with clean utility, operating, and recovery rooms, into a small footprint. We collaborated closely with the mechanical engineer to maximize the ceiling height in a space that already had low ceilings and minimize equipment sizes to avoid taking up valuable floor space. We also designed the office to receive Quad-A certification. Attention to detail and the creation of intimate spaces within a public setting were two important factors in the overall design. Given the type of procedures performed and the array of emotions a patient experiences when undergoing surgery, it was essential that patients feel comfortable and confident in the space. Through the architecture’s attention to detail, we paid tribute to Dr. Kwak’s meticulousness and artistry.
