In anticipation of putting the company up for sale, Aviary, a tech startup that created a photo editing app for mobile devices, hired us to design an office space in the Village Voice building in Cooper Square of Manhattan. With their limited budget, we carefully modified the space.
Existing light fixtures were reused but their underperforming metal shades were removed, the new desk layout allowed for standing desks, and various lounge areas were created. The most noticeable addition was our design of “the spine”, which was an extremely long piece of cabinetry running down the center of the space and packed with various programmatic elements; inside it are cubbies, a printing station, small meeting rooms, a counter for gathering, and a coffee nook. The spine was painted in a plethora of shades of white, reminiscent of pixels in a photo. Following the renovation, Adobe purchased Aviary.
